Bridgestone South Africa is a unit of the world's No.1 tyre manufacturer. Today, Bridgestone develops, manufactures, and markets tyres for passenger, light truck, truck, bus, earthmoving, agricultural, motorcycle and aircraft applications. Bridgestone South Africa has two manufacturing plants in South Africa, one situated in Brits in the North West Province and the other in Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape.

In 1947 General Tyre South Africa was established by the Williams Hunt Group and General Tyre USA. In 1985 Continental AG and General Tyre SA signed agreement to produce Continental branded tyres in SA and since 2013 CTSA is 100% owned by CAG. Continental Tyre Plant in Africa is based in Port Elizabeth in the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality.

Collectively employing approximately 66,000 people world-wide. With 2 Innovation centres: one based in Akron (USA) and one based in Europe with offices in Colmar-Berg (Luxembourg) & Hanau (Germany), Research and Development are at the forefront of Goodyear’s principle values. In South Africa Goodyear has a manufacturing facility in Port Elizabeth.

Sumitomo Rubber Industries

Sumitomo Rubber South Africa (Pty) Ltd is a subsidiary of Sumitomo Rubber Industries, Ltd (SRI), which is headquartered in Kobe, Japan. SRI is the fifth largest tyre manufacturing company in the world and is responsible for producing and distributing the iconic Dunlop brand, amongst other high-quality products. SRI operates four domestic and several overseas tyre factories with plants in Japan, China, Thailand, Indonesia, Brazil, Turkey and Africa. The company has sales offices in 16 countries and the group comprises seventy companies in tyres, sporting goods, and industrial product categories. Sumitomo Rubber South Africa’s head office and plant is based in Ladysmith, Durban.
